VA Loans in Alaska

Alaska has one of the highest shares of veterans of any state, and state law requires every municipality to offer a property tax exemption to qualifying disabled veterans. The federal VA loan benefit is the same in every state: eligible buyers can buy with no down payment and competitive rates.

Alaska benefits for veterans

Property tax relief for veterans

Alaska law requires municipalities to exempt part of the assessed value of the primary residence of a veteran with a substantial service-connected disability rating from the VA. Some municipalities choose to offer more.

The home has to be your primary residence and permanent place of abode, and you'll need a current VA letter confirming your rating.

In some cases, the surviving spouse of a veteran who received the exemption can continue to qualify.

How to apply: Apply with the assessor in your city or borough.
