VA Loans in Iowa
Iowa offers a property tax credit that can cover the full tax on the homestead of veterans with the most serious service-connected disabilities. The federal VA loan benefit is the same in every state: eligible buyers can buy with no down payment and competitive rates.

Veterans with a permanent service-connected disability rated at the VA's highest level, or a permanent and total rating based on individual unemployability, may qualify for a credit equal to the full property tax on their homestead.
You have to own and live in the home and be an Iowa resident for income tax purposes.
A surviving spouse can continue to receive the credit while living in the home and not remarried. A surviving spouse receiving VA Dependency and Indemnity Compensation may also qualify.
How to apply: File the claim with the city or county assessor by the annual deadline in early summer.
