VA Loans in Minnesota
Minnesota reduces the taxable value of the homes of veterans with significant service-connected disabilities, and extends that help to surviving spouses and caregivers. The federal VA loan benefit is the same in every state: eligible buyers can buy with no down payment and competitive rates.

Property tax relief for veterans
The Market Value Exclusion for Veterans with a Disability lowers the value of a qualifying veteran's homestead for property tax purposes. Honorably discharged veterans with a substantial service-connected disability rating qualify, and those rated permanently and totally disabled receive a larger exclusion.
Surviving spouses may qualify in certain cases, as can a primary family caregiver approved by the VA.
This exclusion takes the place of the regular homestead exclusion rather than adding to it.
How to apply: Apply with the county assessor's office by the end of the year to affect the following year's taxes.
