VA Loans in Vermont
Vermont requires every town to offer a property tax exemption to qualifying veterans, and towns can vote to increase it. The federal VA loan benefit is the same in every state: eligible buyers can buy with no down payment and competitive rates.

Veterans receiving VA disability compensation at a substantial rating, receiving a VA pension, or collecting permanent military medical retirement pay may qualify for an exemption that reduces the appraised value of their primary residence. Surviving spouses of veterans who had the exemption can also qualify.
State law sets a minimum, and towns may vote to offer more. Veterans rated totally and permanently disabled only need to prove eligibility once.
How to apply: Submit proof of eligibility to the Vermont Office of Veterans Affairs by the spring deadline.
